With the site being live to the public for over 2 years now, it seems like a golden opportunity to recap some of the milestone we’ve passed.

The software behind the writing community is now in it’s 3rd version. After a number of major changes to the core of the site. Version 1 brought the basic model to the web. Version to saw a big shack up to the permission system which saw writers able to self-publish or continue to have their written work reviewed before being published. Version 3 saw six new writing formats – short stories, web novels, poetry, how-tos, reviews and recipes. With the new writing formats the site began to feel like a fully-fledged online writing community, catering to a wide spectrum of popular writing styles.

In between all the version releases we’ve constantly been working on new features. At this point in time here’s the round up:

writing in any genre or on almost any topic (fiction/non-fiction)

editorial support

blogging via email

earn revenue or write with no ads

feature as a feature writer

auto-save and revision history for written works

community image gallery

ability to add image in the body tezt

a threaded writer forum

publish straight to the home page

ability to add Google Analytics statistic tracking

and other things I’m sure I’m forgetting

Our main focus for the immediate future is gaining more writers and gaining more feedback. So if you have any requests – let us know!

Our blog has made another jump. We are now running it through onlinewritingcommunity.com which is now a portal for sign-ups to Flickspin. We feel with the move of the blog it will give us more control as well create a suitable home for the sign up page.

With us wanting to grow the site and increase membership, the real estate on the Flickspin home page becomes increasingly valuable. Right now it’s aimed at showcasing new written works on the site. We like this fact and don’t want to change it but we do want to make clear to people passing through that sign up is free and easy. In the end we decided we can have two homepages: one for the new Spinblog and the regular one for new works.

Let’s see how this works out.

Peace!
